North County's Community Magazine
"Green…sustainable”…these words have acquired new meaning in the lexicon recently. “Green”
has become synonymous with “environmentalism” in the past three decades. “Sustainability” was
defined over twenty years ago in the Bruntland Report as: “(Living) that meets the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” These
principles seem very apt in this challenging economic and environmental time.
Our theme and feature story for this issue give us a glimpse into this enlightened way of life.
We are at the beginning of a new age where we learn to live with the planet instead of taking from
it, and it is our belief at NC Magazine that our region will be one of the guiding lights in coming
decades for this shift in popular thought. The various businesses and people we profile in
this issue illustrate that whatever your thoughts on environmentalism might be, it is possible to
live well and prosper in this new era.
This issue also introduces two new section editors to the NC Magazine family. Our new NC Travel
& Dining editor is someone whose work has already graced our pages for the past few issues,
Annie McLhinney-Cochran. Annie was born into a family of “newsies” with printer’s ink in her
veins. Her wandering spirit and bonafides as an oenophile make her a natural to fill this
role.
Our new NC Business section editor was introduced to you in our last issue, albeit in connection
with his “day job”. Paul O’Neal has been a tireless promoter of business in our region for
many years, and in his current roles as President & CEO of the Vista Chamber of Commerce and
Board Chairman of the San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC), he brings a wealth of
knowledge about the NC business community. In addition to Paul, SDNEDC President & CEO Gary
Knight adds his perspective to our pages, as will other leaders of NC’s business community in
future issues.
Of course, our regular features remain, as does our NC Community Calendar. Check it out for tips
on places to go and things to see, and while you are at the back of the magazine, take the time to
peruse the list of businesses whose advertisements bring you this magazine every two months.
Drop in for a visit. When you do, remember to tell them “I saw it in NC Magazine!” NC

About NC Magazine
NC Magazine, North County’s Community Magazine, contains the same interesting local content and
the same vibrant, high-quality look readers and advertisers have come to expect from its
predecessors, San Marcos Magazine and Escondido Magazine. Aside from the classy look, NC Magazine
will always include articles of local interest and specific to each community it serves in North
County.
Readers enjoy our community oriented content and tell us that it sets our publication apart from
other similar magazines. Each issue will always feature articles on Dining, Wine, People, Arts and
Entertainment, Community Updates, Body, Mind and Spirit, and Home, Garden and Design. NC Magazine
has a bi-monthly press run of 40,000 copies and is distributed throughout Escondido, Valley Center,
San Marcos, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Vista, Oceanside, Rancho Bernardo, Poway and surrounding North
County cities.
Of the 40,000 copies printed every two months, 30,000 are delivered house-to-house. The other
10,000 are distributed to high-visibility locations such as coffe shops, dentist and doctors’
offices, etc., throughout the aforementioned cities.
